Women Protesters

Dissatisfied with the outcome of the March 18th Gubernatorial election result for Kaduna State as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, a group of women staged a peaceful protest in Zango Kataf Local Government Area to demand a review of the election result.

The women in their numbers began the protest match from Samaru Kataf round about to the INEC office in Zonkwa and the Local Government Secretariat lamented the injustice by the electoral umpire to have announced and declared a winner in the election which they themselves know the result were doctored.

While at the Local Government Secretariat to register their grievances, one of the leaders of the protesters, Mrs. Dorcas David called on INEC to not only review the results as announced by the returning officer, but declare the candidate of the PDP as the winner of the elections because of the massive support he enjoyed across the state by the people through their vote.

She called on leaders of the People’s Democratic Party in the state to follow all legal means to retrieve the stolen mandate in the interest of justice and equity.

Also speaking, the women leader of the PDP in the Local Government, Mrs. Tabitha Bako expressed optimism that the electoral umpire will listen the cry of the innocent women who sacrificed alot during the electioneering to overwhelmingly vote for Isah Ashiru and Dr. John Ayuba as their next Governor and deputy respectively but their victory stolen by the enemies of the state.

Receiving the protesters at the Council Secretariat in Zonkwa, the Chairman, Zango Kataf Local Government, Mr. Francis Sani, who spoke through the Council Secretary, appreciated the women for their peaceful conduct and pledged to forward their grievances to the appropriate quotas.

He however, appealed to them to remain calm because God will surely answer their prayers, as time shall reveal the true winner of the gubernatorial elections in Kaduna State.

PUNCH reports that the women carried placards with different inscriptions like “the will of the people must prevail”, “This is not what we voted”, “Ashiru is our elected Governor” and “a bamu a huta” amongst others also appealed to the judiciary to be just in the administration of justice.
