Mr Auwal Abdussalam, an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography, at Kaduna State University (KASU), has secured a research grant under the TETFund 2021 National Research Fund (NRF) Intervention worth N18,500.000.00.

This was contained in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), by KASU Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Adamu Bargo, on Thursday in Kaduna.

He said the title of the project which the grant was secured under was “Development of a Framework for Incorporating Climate Change Impact and Adaptation in the Management of Road Networks in Nigeria.”

He also said that the research would be conducted by a group of researchers under the leadership of Abdussalam, who is the principal researcher.

He said the co-researchers were Prof Adrian Eberemu who has a specialiation in Sustainable Highway Geotechnics and Dr Aminu Suleiman with a specialisation in Sustainable Highway and Transportation.

He said others were Dr Atiku Abubakar who has a specialisation in Highway Maintenance and Rehabilitation, Dr Mansur Hamma-Adama who specialises in Construction Project Management, Dr H.M Alhassan with a specialization in Transportation Engineering and the Environment.

Bargo further mentioned others co-researchers to be Dr Muttaka Ibrahim who specialises in Traffic and Pavement Engineering, Mrs Bashariya Mustapha Baba, a specialist in Climate Change and Tourism and Mallam Zahradeen Isah, a climatologist.

Bargo explained that the research grant was to enable KASU and the researchers to contribute meaningfully to Government’s desire to revive and make research the launch pad for national development.

He also said that KASU was expected to submit a periodic progress report on the research to TETFund, adding that the duration for execution of the research is 24 months.

Further, he said Abdussalam, an Associate Professor of Applied Meteorology and Environmental Sciences at the Department of Geography, was also the Head of Climate Change Research Unit at KASU.

“Abdussalam has a PhD in Geography and Environmental Sciences, with a specialisation in Climate Change Impact Assessment from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.

“Before that, he obtained his BSc and MSc in Geography from Bayero University, Kano and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, respectively,”Bargo said.

The PRO further said that Abdussalam research interest focuses on climate change impact assessment; adaptation and mitigation, disaster risk management, environmental sustainability, and environmental impact assessment.

He also said that Abdussalam has presented his work at several conferences, and published outcomes of his numerous research in high-impact journals, books and book chapters.

“He has won several national and international academic grants and awards, the most recent is the prestigious National Research Fund grant by TetFund as the Principal Investigator.

“In addition, he has mentored and supervised master’s students and PhD candidates,”he said.

The PRO said Abdussalam was the immediate past Director of Admissions and Examinations, and the current Director of Academic Planning at KASU.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
