The Kaduna State Government on Wednesday re-named Kagarko Local Government Secretariat after the late Abdullahi Abubakar Mailafia.

A statement by the Council Chairman, Hon. Nasara Rabo, said the Local Government Secretariat had been re-named Alh. Abdullahi Abubakar Mailafia House by the administration of Governor Nasir el-Rufai.

The statement stated that,” stakeholders in the Local Government Area after due consultation with the Executive Council through the State Government decided to honor the late Abdullahi by renaming the Council Secretariat after him for the vital role he played in creating the Council.

” This was done in appreciation of the service rendered to the Local Government by the late Alh. Abdullahi Abubakar Mailafia was born in Kagarko on July 7, 1944, to the then Emir of Kagarko Alhaji Abubakar Sambo Sulaiman and Hajiya Mariya Abubakar, both of blessed memory.

” He was popularly called (Mailafiya) a nickname he ironically earned from his mother due to the circumstances surrounding her birth.

Abdullahi was said to have started his elementary education at the Kagarko Primary School in 1950 where he attained his grade 4 certificate, after which she proceeded to Kachia to complete his Primary Education up to Grade 7.

” For his secondary education he attended the very popular Government College Kaduna after which he proceeded to the university in Ile – ife, now known as Obafemi Awolowo University in the present day Osun State for a Diploma and later secured admission at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained his first degree and subsequently a master of public Administrator in 1976.

” Because of his quest for education, he was privileged to attend Several valuable courses at the Royal Institute of Public Administration in London UK, and the Prestigious Harvard University in Massachusetts USA in addition to other institutions both within and outside the country.

“He began his career as a civil servant when he was employed as an Assistant Secretary in the Kaduna state Ministry of Economic Planning and was later appointed Assistant District Officer for Daura and Katsina Divisions respectively before he became a Senior District Officer of Zaria Division in 1972.

” Alh. Abdullahi also served as secretary and sole Administrator of the old Kaduna Local Government (Kaduna North now), after which he joined the Ministry for Federal Capital Territory, Abuja in 1980 before he was later appointed the pioneer Secretary for the Directorate of Food, Roads, and Rural Infrastructure (DFRRI) under the presidency in 1986 were he also served in various other Ministries such as Budget & Planning Transport, and Finance International Affairs before he retired from the Federal civil service on July 7th, 2004 at the ripe age of 60 years, ” The statement added.

He further stated that the seasoned administrator had a brief stint in the banking industry where he served as one of the pioneer staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kaduna branch on secondment.

” Until his death on July 31st, 2005, he was survived by his two Wives, 15 children, and 17 Grand Children. The statement was disclosed.
