The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kaduna, on Saturday dismissed the petition brought by the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives Candidate for Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency, Hon. Anto Usman seeking to invalidate the election of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Dan Amos.
Hon. Dan was returned elected in the House of Representatives election conducted on February 25, 2023, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Not satisfied with the outcome of the election, Hon. Anto Usman filed a petition at the tribunal seeking to invalidate Dan’s victory.
In his petition, Anto alleged that Hon. Dan was not qualified to contest for the election and that he had presented a forged School certificate, prayed the tribunal to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue him a certificate of return as he came second during the election.
Delivering judgment in the matter on Saturday, Justice H. Helenge, Chairman of the three-man panel that heard the petition, dismissed the case.
Fielding questions from newsmen, one of the lead counsel to the respondent Yakubu Galadima Esq, said the petition filed by the APC House of Reps Candidate was dismissed by the Tribunal for lack of merit.
” The Tribunal was magnanimous not to grant any cost against the petitioner for wasting its time.
Meanwhile, the Hon. Member in a message stated: ” I just won my election petition against my brother Usman Anto of the APC, noting Usman Anto remains my brother.
He congratulated the Good people of the Jema’a/Sanga federal constituency, saying I heard you loud and clear when you came out and delivered your mandate to us.
” That trust I hold and shall continue to hold for the Good of our constituents.
So help me God.” Hon. Dan concluded
