Kaduna State Governor, Sen. Uba Sani, has described the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a melting pot for national unity and integration.
Sani said this at the closing of the 2023 Batch ‘C’, Stream ‘1’ Orientation Course for the corps members deployed to the state on Tuesday.
Sani, represented by the Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Salisu, said the fears in the corps members because of being posted to the state would soon be allayed with the level of hospitality that would be shown to them.
He restated the state government’s continued support
toward the achievement of the objectives of the NYSC scheme in the state.
The governor said that his administration would continue to do its best in ensuring provision of conducive environment for the corps to discharge its responsibilities.
He urged employers, both in the public and private sectors in the state, to accept all the corps members posted to them and ensure their wellbeing.
“Apart from providing you with the platform to serve your country, the one year is equally a period to add value to yourselves.
“You must, therefore, seize the opportunity provided by the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to improve your lives during and after the service year,” he said.
The governor urged them to accept their postings in good faith and see it as an opportunity to touch lives positively.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mr Hassan Taura, advised the corps members to allow their remarkable conducts during their orientation course to direct their affairs throughout the service year and beyond.
“As soon as you get to your places of primary assignment, settle down quickly and make yourselves relevant in the communities you find yourself.
“Respect the culture and tradition of the people and do your best to identify with their problems and aspirations,” Taura said.
He cautioned them against unauthorised and unnecessary journeys to minimise the risk of road accidents.
Taura thanked the state government, all the scheme’s collaborating agencies, organisations and individuals for their unwavering support and assistance which had contributed to the success of the orientation course. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
