Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union-COEASU, Kaduna State College of Education Gidan Waya chapter has appealed to the state government to look into the lingering challenges bedeviling the College and provide immediate solution.
The Chairman of the College Union, Comrade Marajos Alkali stated this to newsmen during a press conference at Kafanchan Jemaa Local Governmt area of the state.
Comrade Marajos Alkali explained that staffs of tertiary institutions in the state are poorly funded which has contributed to the brain drain going on;and has invariably affected smooth operations of activities in the various institutions.
He also appealed to Governor Uba Sani to remove conditions attached to the 65 years retirement age which requires a staff to attain a PhD on or before the age of 55 in view of the current realities in the country.
The Union leader also appealed for the reopening of the Gidan Waya Consultacy Services that was closed down by the immediate past Administration of the state which has contributed to internally generation of revenue and urgmented the subvention from the state government.
” the Kaduna State government should emulate the President Bola Tinubu’s led Administration which excluded all federal tertiary institutions from the Integrated Personal Payment Information System, IPPIS system and the cancellation of 40 percent proposed deduction from Internally Generated Revenue in all federal institutions of learning.
” if the state government replicates this, it will go a long way in ameliorating funding challenges in its educational institutions and guarantee efficient management”,he added
Comrade Alkali commended Governor Uba Sani for the downward review of school fees paid by students as well as the approval of the appointment of a substantive Provost from within the college community, describing the development as a step in the right direction.
