In a vibrant celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day, Halimat Tejuosho, founder of the QAT Foundation, has sponsored an engaging chess tournament for the Karu Chess Players Club in Abuja, with cash and various gifts.

This event not only marked the significance of the nation’s independence but also aimed to promote chess as a crucial tool for intellectual development within the community.

Held on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024 the tournament attracted chess enthusiasts from various age groups, showcasing their skills and passion for the game.

Participants engaged in intense matches, displaying strategic thinking and sportsmanship while fostering camaraderie among players, describing the competition as interesting, urged that it be sustained.

 

Speaking at the event, Tejuosho emphasized that such events help to build a sense of community and encourage collaboration among young minds.

She added that the gesture was part of her broader initiative to commemorate the years’ independence, stressing that sport helps to build unity and togetherness amongst members of the society regardless of differences.

Tejuosho stressed that, “the activities highlight the importance of education, sports, and community engagement. Chess teaches critical thinking, problem-solving, and patience.

“By promoting this game, we not only celebrate our heritage but also invest in the intellectual growth of our youth. I want to expressed my gratitude to all participants and also to know that their enthusiasm contributes to the growing popularity of chess in Nigeria.”

The NGO Boss through the tournament, also reaffirms her commitment to empowering the next generation and enriching the cultural landscape of Nigeria.

The tournament concluded with an awards ceremony, where top performers received medals and recognition for their achievements.
